About NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania

In July 2016, NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania was selected to become the official state NAMI organization in Pennsylvania. NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania was chosen as the new name.

Recognized as a thought leader on mental illness throughout the region, NAMI believes that recovery from mental illness is possible, champions improvements to the mental health system, and promotes acceptance and understanding of mental illness.

NAMI’s dedicated staff and volunteers provide recovery-focused support and education programs throughout the region. A membership-based organization, NAMI works diligently to ensure the collective voice of its membership is heard by legislators, the media, and stakeholders. NAMI strives to raise awareness, end stigma, and create a culture of knowledge and compassion for mental illness.

NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania

Established in 1983, NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania is a 501(c)3 grassroots, non-profit organization that provides support, education, and advocacy to individuals and families affected by mental illness.

NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania serves the 10 counties of the Southwest region as an affiliate under NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania. NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania serves the 10-county region that includes Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington, and Westmoreland counties.


NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness through recovery-focused support, education and advocacy.

Standards for Excellence

In January 2014, after months of rigorous or preparation and peer review, NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania was awarded the Seal of Excellence by the Pennsylvania Association for Nonprofit Organizations (PANO) for successfully completing the Standards for Excellence accreditation program. Of the one million nonprofits operating in the United States, only about 200 have earned the Seal. NAMI is one of just 15 nonprofits in southwestern Pa. to have earned this distinction.
