About NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania

Join NAMI to "ensure your voice is heard".

NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania is a non-profit organization established in 1983, to address the increasing need for families and service recipients to have a stronger voice in the mental health system. It serves a ten-county region in Southwestern Pennsylvania that includes Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington and Westmoreland. We are affiliated with NAMI and NAMI PA.

Our membership consists of families, consumers and friends of people with severe mental illnesses. Through regional peer directed volunteer activities, NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania provides education programs, support groups and self-help to enable families and consumers to become more effective self advocates. NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania provides education about severe brain disorders and advocates for adequate health insurance, housing, rehabilitation, and employment for people with serious mental illnesses. We work with consumers, family members and professionals enabling them to gain access to vital resources and to become partners in care.

Serious mental illnesses are illnesses of the brain and can be treated successfully. We work to combat stigma and stereotyping by providing factual information to the community. NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania is your regional resource for encouraging adequate funding and much needed quality services.
